This summer has simply burned by me, I’ve been so incredibly busy. The long weekend is nearly upon us now, which for me each year marks a trip to Vancouver to get my next belt in capoeira, the martial art that’s been a part of my life for the better part of my twenties now.
I always love our time out in Vancouver, the spot we stay in with friends is two blocks from the beach, with a trendy little coffee shop literally steps away from their back door. This year we are actually doubling up though, we’ve got a wedding this weekend in addition to all the workshops that culminate in the ceremony to get that next belt.
After that I would love to say things will slow down some, but for September I don’t think it’s in the cards. I need to finish my 2014 calendar, which so far I’ve only made time for by sketching on my lunch hour at work. One additional confession: I am writing this blog post from the train on my way into work.
I played in my sketchbook for a mere twenty minutes last night before acknowledging that I was not going to make it to the gym, or get two more calendar months sketched, or start painting one of the five girls that I’ve drawn over the last week for the blog. Instead I gave in, made a pot of tea, and took up solace on the couch in the living room with the cats and a chick flick to check out and chill out for a little while. My Instagram feed lately has been littered with pictures of all the September issues for the big fashion mags, and next week I intend to clear a night for myself that involves nothing but perusing those and pampering myself, most likely in bare feet and sweat pants.
I know it’s only Wednesday, but my weekend starts tomorrow with a drive to Vancouver following my regular work day, and I doubt I’ll have another post ready before we leave. So to all, have a great long weekend and try to slow down. Take that extra minute, even if it is only one, to stop and smell the flowers.
