It’s been one of those odd days, my creativity feels like it’s on a high note.  Every time I pick up a book to read I am inundated with visual images that are just begging me to get back to the drawing board…but then every time I try to draw a new face I get myself stuck!  I finally had to talk myself into sitting down and scanning my inventory for the first image I could find that covered the girl’s face just so that I could find some peace of mind and assure myself that I am not at a total loss.  There was this awesome quote I read by Van Gogh  that said “If you hear a voice within you say “you cannot paint“, then by all means paint and that voice will be silenced.”

I try to keep that thought in mind now when I start to feel stuck.  Previously that thought would have had me walking away from the drawing board for months or even years at a time.  I don’t want to do that anymore.  I’ve had a few days now where I started to feel like my creative steam was running out.  I had a minor epiphany upon discovering that if I kept on going and pushed through what I was working on, I felt a little stronger at the end of it.  In a sense painting is like exercise, so much of it is talking yourself through the doubt and telling yourself to keep going.

I hope you like her.  I’m trying more to experiment with different body positions and postures, and I do want to start incorporating more backgrounds into my work, but without letting them take over the intent of the image.  Thanks!

I hope you have a wonderful Canada Day weekend!  I may start mixing it up a little with my days for posting next week!
