    NYFW

Hello.  I don’t know about the rest of you, but my Instagram was blowing up all of last week with runway shots of the various shows for New York Fashion week.  I learned a bit about myself – it’s that I am more drawn to the street style of the individuals going to watch the shows than I am of the models strutting it on stage.

This may have combined with finally seeing ‘The Devil Wears Prada’ for the first time last week – yes, really, and somehow from Twitter hearing about Jimmy Kimmel going to NYFW and asking show goers there if they’d heard of non-existent designers.  I had to shake my head at the people who lied in an attempt to keep up and sound as though they were in the know.  The other part of that video was people writing down the cost of their outfits, some of them in the thousands.  I also saw two bloggers I follow rather fondly receive Kate Spade bags worth a thousand dollars.  I think that’s when the absurdity of the entire thing finally started to get to me.  A thousand dollars on a handbag?  Never mind the fact that depending on how up to date you are with fashion – it’ll be out of style next year, but a thousand dollars.  That’s more than my portion of a mortgage payment.  Potentially more than my trip to New York will cost this month.  I just…am at a loss.

Don’t get me wrong.  I have my denim fetish and I will throw down a couple hundred dollars for a pair of jeans in a heartbeat if the fit is right and the wash just so…but I don’t know that I will ever in good conscience be able to own a thousand dollar handbag and think nothing of it.

Okay.  End rant.  I’m feeling a little drained this week (I know…it’s only Monday.  So sad.) as I have been tripping over myself trying to keep up with painting the calendar, visiting with family from out of town, refusing (stubbornly) to miss capoeira in spite of my still healing elbow, and stay on top of my work life as well.  I have this big shiny trip to look forward to next week and I know if I’m not careful it’s going to flash by in a blur of fatigue.  I surely hope not.

I couldn’t find the name of this fashion blogger, but clearly she’s on her way to a show.  Just look at her.  I hope I haven’t offended anyone with my fashion ranting.  I’m just short of sleep and down time right now.
